FIRE (Elite Forces Series Book 2)

I have no idea if Ty is alive or not. Which is partially why the others went home. I wanted extra security for my mom and sister. I’m not taking his threats lightly, not when it comes to two of the three women who mean more to me than my own damn life. They’ve both had security on them for years. It goes with my job, but now it’s tripled.

One of the guys I served two tours with owns a security firm in Atlanta. I need to call him to thank him for helping me out. He sent a crew to watch my mom’s house and another one to watch my sister during the day while she works. Hell, I was too weak to even hold a phone when that call needed to be made a few weeks ago. I owe Kase for taking care of that for me without me even needing to ask. Hell, he’s stepped up to the plate big time. He even took it upon himself to stock my fridge at the compound with food for when we get home today. Fucking perfect because I plan to eat like a beast until I’m back to normal. My body is withering away with this bullshit food in here.

I haven’t talked to my mom or sister yet. As far as they know, I’m off doing my job. The first thing I’m gonna do when I get home is talk to them. I may be a grown man, but we all need to hear the sound of our mom’s voice every now and then.

“You ready to get your ass out of here, brother?” Kase asks when he steps to the side of the bed, bringing me out of my mind.

“He can leave whenever he wants.” My doctor, who I still want to punch, speaks with authority. His eyes are trained on Jade’s ass. Hello, fucker. Your patient is over here. I’ll make sure she gets what she needs.

“Great, then. Take care of yourself. Make sure you set that appointment up with your doctor back home, Mr. Maverick.”

“Will do.” I swing my legs around before he finishes speaking. I’ve been dressed and ready to go since they told me this morning I’d be able to get the hell out of here.

I grab Jade’s hand, while Jackson tugs my bag from around her shoulder. I’d sure as fuck like to say I walked out of this place, but hell, no. In strides Jackson’s sexy little nurse walks in. He’s spent a shit ton of time with her the past few days and now she’s pushing a goddamn wheelchair to haul my ass out of here.

“I’ll call you when we land.” Jackson places a kiss on the top of his latest victim to the ‘action team.’ I mock him in my head. He’s so full of shit. He won’t call her. She was his distraction for the week he stayed down here. He knew he’d never see her again after we left. I know him. It’s what he does. That’s the only reason why he spent so much time with her. He says it just isn’t the same after you’ve hit it a few times. Claims he likes variety.

“Sure,” she tells him as she steps back so both Jackson and Pierce can help me slide my slow-moving body into the back of a van.

“A fucking minivan.” I about die laughing. It’s one hell of a sight to the people we pass on the way to the airport as they look once, then do a double take, their heads turning when they see three big-ass men and one badass woman in a green, ugly as fuck minivan.

Thank fuck the flight to the compound is a short one. Sitting next to Jade in this private plane Pierce arranged is killing me. I’ve adjusted my cock more times than I can count. It’s been hard since I trailed behind her climbing the set of stairs to get inside the cabin.

My body is still mangled and bruised, but I’ll be damned if that’s going to stop me from sliding inside the tightest, sweetest * I’ve had.

The minute I hang up with my mom and sister, I’m all over her ass. Goddamn, I may have to take her ass again. Not tonight. Soon though. My legs are still fucked all to hell. Shit. I tilt my head back in my seat and train my hard glare out the window while I dread that fucking phone call.

What the hell am I going to say to my mom? I can’t tell her the truth, legally anyway. Besides, the truth would kill her. She hides her pain well, or at least she has over the years. I know it’s to protect Amelie and I. All these years, she’s lived with losing her son. A man who has now threatened to physically hurt her.

How in the fuck can he think the way he does? Maybe he isn’t thinking at all. Maybe the fucker is dead. I hope like hell I see his lifeless body on that tape. Seeing his eyes wide open in shock right before he took his last breath would actually bring me relief.

“You okay over there?” Jade nestles into me, carefully. She needs to knock that shit off. I don’t need her taking it easy on me anymore. I need her tough interior back. The smart-mouthed woman who has brought me to my damn knees over and over needs to make an appearance.
