“Alright. Well, remember tomorrow we’re leaving right after lunch.”
See, she knew I wouldn’t be home early enough for her to give me the run-down of tomorrow’s events later.
“Yep,” I replied. I was so not looking forward to visiting the Daniels. Carl was doing well and as much of a bitch as it made me I couldn’t quite be jumping for joy over it.
At half past seven I started to get ready. I curled my hair and put on a little make-up. My outfit was a short dark denim skirt and hot pink camisole that showed off a small amount of cleavage. Again, I looked older and like a stranger.
Just as I was finishing up Kai beeped his horn. Knowing that I was going to be with him again tonight made me relax a bit. Tomorrow was going to be a nightmare so I was determined to shove everything away for as long as I could. No one did that better for me than Kai.
I left the house feeling optimistic, for the night anyway.
He stared at my legs, not even bothering to hide his ogling as I got in his car. “Eyes are up here, Kai,” I said sarcastically.
He grinned, unashamed. “Sorry. You look… My mouth is actually watering.”
“Thanks.” Mine is, too. He looked drop dead gorgeous in dark jeans and a black shirt. The top two buttons were undone; giving a peek at the dog tags he wore around his neck.
“So, cheesy new club then?” he asked.
“Sounds…shit but I’m sure the company won’t be.”
He smirked. “I’ll make sure you have a good night.”
I didn’t doubt it for a second.
Chapter Eight
Kai
Tegan was still fast asleep at ten-thirty and I wasn’t sure if I should wake her or let her sleep. She’d mentioned something when she was off her tits on vodka about going somewhere she didn’t want to go. I didn’t know what time this thing she didn’t want to do was.
Last night I’d also found out why she looked like she was in constant pain. Her dad had died. That was fucking rough. You expected your parents to go first but not until you were all old.
I wished it had been Tegan who’d told me what’d happened but as much as I wanted it to come from her I just wanted to bloody know. Sophie, thankfully, had a big mouth. Soph didn’t say when but I could tell it hadn’t been too long ago.
It was weird, back when I was exactly where Tegan is I thought I was the only one in the world that couldn’t deal with death in the ‘normal’ way. I could see the same thought in her eyes.
Breathing deeply, she stretched her back, arching her naked body into mine. Two bright, leafy eyes locked on me and she smiled. Tegan’s eyes were an incredible shade with brown around the iris and yellow around the pupil. As amazing as they were they were also pained and withdrawn.
She’d done a bloody good job of alienating the people in her life and building a wall around herself, much better than I did. I still gave a fuck and that pissed me off and made me retaliate even more. Right now Tegan was made of stone.
“Hey,” I said, running my hand down her back and across the top of that peachy arse.
“Hey.” She traced one of the waves tattooed on my arm. “You got any painkillers?”
“Sore head, have we?”
She smirked. “Not too bad but I want to take something in case.”
“I’ll get you some in a minute. What time do you need to go home?”
Her eyes flicked to the alarm clock on my bedside table. “I have an hour,” she said, tracing the tattoo across my shoulder and then leaving it to head lower. “Do you have anywhere to be?”
I licked my dry bottom lip and pulled her flush with me. “I do now.”
She tilted her head back when I planted the first kiss at the base of her throat. Rolling her onto her back, I kissed down between her breasts. “Will you let me take you back on my bike?”
“That depends,” she replied.
I took her nipple between my teeth and flicked the tip with my tongue. “On what?”
“On how good this is going to be.”
Pulling away, I smirked at her. “Are we running a reward system right now?”
“Yes. Do the thing with your fingers and mouth and I’ll consider it. Do the thing where I’m on your lap and you’re using those fingers and it’s a dead cert.”
If I wasn’t so hard I was aching before…
I laughed. “Like that, do we?”
She nodded, pulling her lip between her teeth. “I more than like that.”
I sat up and pulled the cover all the way off her, shoving it on the floor. “Stand up, Tegan.”
“Huh? That’s not how we do that.”
“I know. Stand up.”
I watched her rise up in front of me and couldn’t keep my hands off her toned legs. No one had ever managed to get to me the way she did.
“Why am I standing?” she asked, looking down at me.
Running my hands up her legs, I forced them open and her eyes widened with realisation. My smile grew. “Yeah, that’s why.”
“Kai,” she breathed, chest heaving.
