Save Me

I followed Kai into our tent and we kicked our bags down near the opening. The temperature had dropped dramatically and it was cold inside the tent. I stripped down to my underwear and stole Kai’s t-shirt.

Screw freezing to death, I pushed Kai over and got inside his sleeping bag, too. He had a double but it was a small double so we were packed in pretty tight. That was fine by me though, I didn’t mind being squashed up against his toned and tattooed body.

We laid down and the rain started coming down heavy, hammering on the top of the tent. Well, at least the sky waited until we were inside before it peed down.

Sighing, he wrapped his arms around me, letting one slip up the back of the shirt. His fingers trailed over my skin, giving me goose bumps and making me hot and achy. I felt every feather light touch right where I wanted to feel it and couldn’t stifle a moan as his fingers glided just above the top of my thong.

His breathing became heavier and his wandering hands crept around the front. I almost combusted when he rubbed me through the thin material. His lips found mine just in time to muffle my moan. I arched into him and trailed my hand over his defined chest.

I wasn’t sure what made him snap but his hand left where I wanted it the most and he rolled on top of me, ripping my thong off. He didn’t even bother taking his boxers all the way off and to be honest, it was awkward in the sleeping bag and would just take too long anyway.

He sealed his lips over mine in a hot and heavy kiss that made my toes curl and heels dig into his backside in a bid to get him to enter me quicker. Thrusting forwards he entered me sharply and the days pent up sexual tension burst in a frenzy of desperate sex that wasn’t at all sweet and romantic but was exactly what we both needed.

I clamped around him and fisted his hair, tugging hard.

My moans were rolling into one as I lost control. All I could focus on was how incredible his skin felt against mine. “Fuck,” he growled against my mouth and thrust faster until all I could do was hold on. I shattered around him, crying out shamelessly.

I bit down on his lip as wave after wave took me somewhere I’d never been before. This time was different. Something was different and nothing had ever felt so good before.

Groaning, he thrust hard once more and then stilled, pouring into me and kissing me like it was the last time he’d ever be able to kiss anyone again.

I fell asleep shortly after he curled me up in his arms again and planted the softest kiss on my forehead.

Chapter Fifty-Four

Tegan

“Morning,” I whispered as I rolled off Kai’s perfect begging-to-be-licked-and-bit chest.

“Morning, princess.”

“You alright?” He nodded, kissed me for less than a second and got up. What was that? Was it something I’d done or was it Isaac? Either way, I hated him being sad and seeing the light in his eyes dull to nothing.

I got dressed awkwardly in the small tent, and followed Kai outside.

The atmosphere was different today, Kai’s family smiled and talked about Isaac but I could see and feel the sadness. Kai barely said a word all morning. He pulled me onto his lap and laid his chin on my shoulder as I silently listened to stories about his little brother.

On a few occasions, Melanie looked like she was going to cry but she’d told me that she won’t let herself cry on his birthday. It was supposed to be a happy time and she could wait until she was home. I was in awe of her strength and her determination to make Isaac’s birthday a day to celebrate, having known him for just six short years.

I couldn’t hold back the tears when Melanie talked about Isaac’s obsession with the army and his love of the dog tags Kai now wore. The entire time Kai gripped them in one hand and held me tight with his other arm. I loved how much he loved his little brother.

“Walk with me?” Kai asked once Melanie had finished her story.

I got off his lap, let him take my hand and lead the way.

“How’re you doing?” I asked when we were out of earshot.

“I’m alright,” he replied tightly. “Better having you here.” He squeezed my hand that little bit harder and rubbed his thumb over my knuckles. I was glad I was here, too. I wanted, needed, to be there for him.

“Good.”

We walked deep into the woods and usually I’d be concerned but Kai seemed to know where he was going so I didn’t worry. “I wish I could’ve met Isaac, he sounds like an awesome kid.”

“He was. Annoying as fuck but I loved him like mad and would’ve done anything for him.”
