A McKenzie Christmas (McKenzie Brothers, #5.5)

“I’ve been unwell,” Carla started. “I mean the past few mornings, well actually, it’s been around two weeks that I haven’t felt that great.”

“She felt sick this morning,” he chimed in.

The doc met Sebastian’s gaze and her eyes widened when she realized why they had the appointment. Sebastian gave a slight shake to his head when the doc glanced to Carla and then back to him.

The doc coughed as though she needed to clear her throat, and hid a smile behind her hand. “Okay then. I’d like to get some blood work done, and I’d like you to give a urine sample. There are cups in the restroom that you can use, and leave it with the nurse when you’re ready.”

Carla nodded as the doctor checked her blood pressure and temperature. She jotted down a few notes and then said, “Go and give me a urine sample and then we’ll get your blood drawn,” before she slipped out of the door. Sebastian could barely keep his excitement under control.

“Sebastian?” Carla murmured. “You seem too happy about me being sick.”

“Shush, babe. Everything will be fine. Just go in there, drop your panties and get this over with.” He smirked.

Carla smacked his arm. “Drop my panties. What’s wrong with you?”

“Honey, that’s the only way you’re going to pee in the cup.”

“Ugh! I knew I should have come on my own,” she mumbled as he watched her disappear inside the restroom.

Perhaps it hadn’t been a good idea for him to tell her to drop her panties. All he could see in his head was her silky smooth ass as he pounded into her while she was on her hands and knees.

His brothers always razzed him about having sex on the brain, and for the first time, he actually agreed with them.

When she had a sample, Carla slipped into the nurse’s office and had her blood taken before they went back into the small room. They sat together as Sebastian clasped her hand…each lost in their own thoughts as they waited. The clock ticked by and it felt like forever, although it was only fifteen minutes before the doctor slipped back into the room.

“So, we have everything that we need from you, but I will need you to book some follow up appointments.” The doctor stared down at her tablet as she read Carla’s file. Panic filled Carla…more appointments! What was wrong with her?

Looking up, the doctor smiled and relief flooded through Carla—it couldn’t be anything too serious if she smiled liked that…which probably meant…

“And I see that congratulations are in order.”

Carla’s mouth dropped in surprise as she whispered, “What?” She knew what the doctor meant but her brain wasn’t processing the words.

“You’re pregnant.”

Carla felt her face drain of color at the doctor’s words as her mind whirled around the fact. How was it possible? She was on the pill so that her and Sebastian could enjoy the feel of him inside her without a condom. Plus she loved him coming inside her so they hadn’t used anything for a while. But pregnant?

“How exactly did that happen?”

Carla’s question wiped the smile off Sebastian’s face, but he answered with amusement, “If the doc wasn’t sitting there, I’d show you?”

Carla groaned and smiled. In fact, she didn’t smile, she beamed when she realized that Sebastian was happy that she was pregnant. But then another thought hit her, “Wait a minute.” She narrowed her eyes at Sebastian. “How did you know I was pregnant?”

“I didn’t,” he started to deny, “okay, I did. After you’d felt off, a couple of times, it hit me that it was always before lunch, so I put two and two together and got four.” He grinned.

She had questions for Sebastian but she wanted privacy to talk to him. At the moment, the doctor was enjoying their discussion.

“How are you feeling now that the shock has worn off?” Sebastian asked.

She didn’t really know how she felt because they needed to talk and, until they had, she couldn’t answer.

They’d talked about kids before, but they had agreed that they wanted to wait a few years so they could have time together on their own. Carla being pregnant threw things off kilter.

“I’m not sure.” She was honest. “How do you feel?”

He stared at her before he asked again, “I want to know how you feel, babe?”

“Stop doing that!” she snapped. “I seriously want to know how you feel about us being pregnant. I know I’m the one carrying our child, but it involves both of us and always will.”

Sebastian perched on the coffee table in front of his wife, who was curled up in the chair in the living room. He placed his hands on her thighs. “Carla, I love you with everything I have, and I will love and protect any child we have together. I know you’re pregnant a bit earlier than we planned, but, well, you want the truth, and the truth is, I’m excited that I’m going to become a father. There is nothing sexier than knowing the woman I love is carrying my child.”
