All He Ever Dreamed (Kowalski Family, #6)

“Yes,” she whispered, and he kissed her until she could barely breathe.

“Let’s get married fast so we can get started making babies,” he said, his eyes crinkling at the corners. “Awesome babies who’ll beat the snot out of Mitch and Sean’s kids in family football games.”

“Hell, yeah. And just think, we can tell them all the charming story of how they were each conceived in the barn.”

He laughed, shaking his head. “I thought about that, driving home from New Mexico. It’s a long drive, so I had plenty of time to think. The office is off the living room and it’s downstairs, but at the other end of the house from the guest bedrooms. I think we’ll move the office upstairs and claim that space as our bedroom. No screaming, of course, but I won’t have to put a pillow over your face, either.”

“I like the way you think.” She searched his face for any lingering signs of doubt. She didn’t see any. “My mom is going to come totally undone.”

“She already did, on the phone. I had to call her. I mean, I left. I didn’t feel right just showing up and saying, ‘hey, changed my mind so I want my house and my business back now, thanks,’ you know?”

“And she called you a dumbass and cried happy tears.”

“Pretty much.” Without taking his arm off her waist, he glanced over his shoulder at the clock. “You think the town will protest if you close a little early? I’ve had twenty-three hundred miles to think about what comes after you saying yes.”

“I think Whitford will survive.” She looked up at him, her heart almost aching with love and knowing he’d come home to her. “What are you thinking comes after yes?”

He leaned down to whisper in her ear. “What would you say if I told you I’ve been thinking about bending my best friend and future wife over her kitchen table?”

“I’d say it’s about damn time.”
