The Whispers

To early readers Beth Lockley, Ashley Thomson, Robin Kotisa, Karma Brown, and Dr. Kristine Laderoute for her psychologist’s lens—thank you. And to Carley Fortune, Nita Pronovost, and Harriet Alida Lye, thank you for being such a lovely bunch of writer friends.

My writing partner, Ashley Bennion Tait, has read more terrible drafts of my work than any person should be subjected to. I have benefited enormously from her talents, and also from her friendship. She’ll publish her debut novel, Twenty-Seven Minutes, by Ashley Tate, in January 2023, and I hope you’ll buy a copy—it’s as brilliant as she is.

My treasured girlfriends have supported me as a writer in such kind and thoughtful ways—please know how much I love you all. A special thanks to my dearest Jenny Leroux, for every reason.

Thank you to the readers, booksellers, librarians, and authors who championed The Push over the past few years, and to those of you who have reached out with a message, written a review, or shared a post on social media. It means so much.

The greatest privilege of my life is having the family I do. Thank you to my exceptional and loving parents, Mark and Cathy Audrain; to my sisters, Sara and Samantha; and to Alex, Brendan, and Brayden. Thank you to the Fizzells and to the Aikinses for all of your love and support. And thank you to our devoted nanny, Jackelyne Napilan.

Finally, to MJF, for everything, always. And to Oscar and Waverly, for indulging my writing life so patiently and being endlessly, wonderfully inspiring. I love you.
