Heart's a Mess

“You’ll hurt your back,” she said.

He ignored her.

He sat them on the couch with her on his lap. They were both covered in sweat and breathing heavy. It had been totally worth it. His fingers traced up and down the side of her leg. She planted a kiss on his bare chest, breathing him in deeply.

“You okay?” he asked.

“Yes.”

“Are we okay?”

She looked up and he stared right back at her, blue eyes intent, waiting. She’d gotten no sleep the night previous. Sitting awake, thinking over everything he’d said and trying to make sense of it all, trying to make the right decision. In all honesty, he scared the crap out of her. But it wasn’t because he felt like a mistake.

The beautiful man leaned down and brushed his nose against hers. “Hmm?”

Her heart thudded hard. Funnily enough, she was starting to get used to it.

“We are fantastic,” she said.

His arms tightened around her. “Good.”

“I have a confession to make.”

He canted his head, kissed her. “What’s that?”

“I hated seeing you with Jane,” she said. “I hated thinking I’d messed up and lost you. And I really hated not being able to touch you.”

Her hand slipped around the back of his neck, holding him close as he kissed her again. A light, sweet thing that definitely needed ramping up a little. She opened her mouth wider and he reciprocated. The stroke of his tongue and the nip of his teeth were hot as sin. If she hadn’t still been recovering from the last round she’d have been climbing all over him. Kissing Alex really needed to take precedence from here on out.

What an excellent plan.

They didn’t rush coming up for air. When he pulled back to look at her, the distinct prod of his hard-on could be felt against her rear. The light in his eye made her want to fan her face. Everything about this man did.

“So I have something to tell you,” she said, panting more than a little.

“What?”

“I think it’s best if I quit.”

Alex frowned. “No! You don’t have to do that.”

“I want you more than I want this job. I’ll find work somewhere else.”

He held her hand to his cheek, eyes serious. “Violet. You fit in here. I like having you here. We can keep this outside of work.”

She doubted that. “Alex, we have yet to manage to have sex off the property. It’s going to affect things. I think my leaving is for the best.”

There was some startlingly loud banging at the door. She nearly jumped out of her stockings.

“Are you two finished in there yet?” John yelled. “I need my stuff.”

Alex rolled his eyes. “John. Fire me.”

“You’re fired.” His brother’s shouts were muffled by the door. “Now get the fuck out of my office.”

“See,” said Alex. “All fixed.”

“Hang on,” said John, voice sounding concerned. “You’re not really leaving me to deal with Duncan alone are you?”

“No,” said Alex. “You can rehire me in the morning.”

“Uh. Okay.”

“What’s going on?” Duncan’s voice joined John’s outside the door. It was almost turning into a family meeting with her sitting on a half-naked man in her underwear. How bizarre. Thank goodness they couldn’t see anything.

“Alex and Violet are at it again,” said John.

Duncan laughed. “Man, they’re like rabbits.”

“You know, we can hear you,” said Alex. He patted her leg. “We better get you dressed. No one gets to see you in that lingerie but me.”

The man had a point. She reluctantly climbed off him and headed for her clothes.

“What kind of lingerie?” asked Duncan, his voice sounding suspiciously close to the keyhole. “Shit. That’s hot.”

“John,” barked Alex.

“I got it,” his brother assured him.

There was a thump and a pained kind of howling noise from out in the hallway.

“Oops,” said John. “I think Duncan accidentally got another black eye. How sad.”

Alex picked up her skirt and held it open for her to step into, then drew it up her legs. His mouth wandered over the tops of her breasts, placing hot kisses across her cleavage. Goose bumps grew aplenty.

“If you leave, how we can have emergency staff meetings, hmm?” he asked. “I’m certain there’s more furniture we need to break in. Plus, I’ve got all these ideas for new initiatives in staff discipline. You over my knee, it’ll be brilliant.”

“Alex.”

“Stay.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes. Very. I’m crazy about you, Violet.”

“My eyes are up here,” she said drily.

He raised his face to give her a boyish grin. “I’m crazy about all of you.”

“I’m crazy about you too,” she admitted as the butterflies in her belly swooped and swirled in the best possible way. Her face hurt from smiling but that was okay. The most beautiful man she’d ever met smiled right back at her.

He kissed her again, backing her up against the desk once more. His hands returned to the zip on her skirt, pulling it down. “I think you’d look awful pretty lying on the desk.”

“I thought we were going to your place.” She gave the most girlish of giggles. It couldn’t be helped. The man was a singular delight, him and his hard cock.

“Guys, seriously,” groaned John.

“Once more for the road, yeah?”

Someone pounded on the door. They both ignored it.

“Whatever you want, boss.” She grinned.
