chapter 17
After I had left my father’s study, I went straight to my room with a new determination in mind. I was full of new information, enough to satisfy my anger, but I still had questions. I was half witch, but my main question was, what was the other half? Ugh, I wanted all of the answers now, but my mother was right. My father did leave me a trail.
For some reason Landon popped in my head and I really just wanted to talk to someone. I didn’t want to be alone for the rest of the day. I had stayed in my father’s study for four hours and the sun was just starting to go down. I figured I would see how fast Landon came to my call.
I stood in the center of my room, “Landon, come out, come out wherever you are,” I called him. I didn’t think anything was going to happen and I felt stupid for voicing this out loud, but to my astonishment he appeared looking the same way he did when I had first seen him.
“You rang,” he said with a smirk on his face.
“How did you get here so fast?” I asked him, with my right brow cocked up.
“Elizabeth, I am a demon, I can come and go as I please.” He said giggling.
“Well, Landon the demon, I need something to keep me busy,” I said with a small grin.
His eyes shined and became a little darker as he asked me, “What do you have in mind?”
“Well if you are thinking along the lines of me being a pervert, you can get that out of your head now.” I said with disgust hanging on my last word.
“Oh no, not me Elizabeth,” he said with sarcasm, “I may not be human, but I am a man. Thanks for making that clear though.” He laughed. His laugh and his giggles came out as growls and frankly he became more attractive. I just looked at him lost in thought that ventured off to my own little world.
“Since you took all the fun out of that, what did you have in mind? Really?” He brought me back to my own world, leaving my face a little blushed.
“Well I was wondering if I could give you a makeover.” I said sweetly sounding like a small child asking her daddy if she could paint his nails.
“A makeover?” Now it was his turn to cock his eyebrow at me. “Why would you want to give me a makeover?”
“Well, to be honest, you need a bath and a haircut. A fresh clean set of clothes would be great as well.” I said innocently hoping I was not offending him. I figured he would tell me no, especially with the look on his face. He seemed torn about something I just couldn’t put my finger on what it was.
“What do I get out of this?” He said coolly.
“Time with me, you said that we were going to be great friends, but I would like a friend that would actually look decent around me.” I giggled a little when I said this.
He tilted his head a little to the right, pondering for a second, and then said, “Of course Elizabeth, I would do anything for you.”
I blushed again and turned my head so he couldn’t see my face. “Really? You will let me give you a makeover!”
“Of course, but I will not allow you to paint my nails,” he said with a look of disgust.
“No I wouldn’t do that unless you wanted me, too!” I laughed and grabbed him by his hand and dragged him to the bathroom.
I turned on the light and shut the door. I also made sure to lock it, just in case my mother walked in. I couldn’t have her see I had a friend, that was male for one, and secondly I couldn’t have her see he was an actual demon.
I left him standing there and started running hot water in the tub. I ran into my closet and grabbed some bath stuff.
I came out and while pouring smelly stuff in the bath water, I said, “Strip and get in.”
“Do what? Sorry I don’t strip on the first date.” He said with his growl laugh.
I stopped and looked up at him, “Pa aa….lease this is not a date and on our first meeting you saw me completely naked, from an unexpected visit out of my floor. Not to mention your eyes looked like they were going to pop out of your head,” I said getting aggravated with him. “Now strip and get in.”
“As you wish then,” he said while removing his cape and his dirty clothes underneath.
I was standing there watching him and I tried to avert my eyes, but failed miserably. He had the body that most guys my age would kill for. He was white as white could be, but his muscles stood out like a pimple. He had a six pack and huge biceps. His calf muscles were enormous and his chest muscles were amazing. We won’t go into the detail in between, except that he would be able to please any girl, without questions!
“Are you just going to stand and stare at me, Elizabeth?” He asked with the biggest grin on his face. “You might want to shut your mouth before a fly flies in.” He said while laughing.
I shut my mouth and turned my back on him. My face grew hot and I knew it was blood red. “Ummmm right…sorry” I said embarrassed. I could not form any words. What the hell is wrong with me?
“No harm, no foul, red is my favorite color and looks wonderful on you,” he said this while sliding into the tub of water.
“Thanks,” I mumbled while I handed him a wash cloth and regretted immediately watching him undress. What was I thinking? Now I was embarrassed and was not sure if I wanted to do this anymore. I was feeling funny in all kinds of weird places.
I let him wash up while I kept myself busy getting towels, clippers, combs, and scissors ready. I walked into the back of my closet and grabbed a nice pair of men’s jeans, which I thought would fit him, and a black polo shirt. Julie had by mistake, stuck my father’s clothes in there and I never took them back to him. Now I was glad I hadn’t.
After Landon finished bathing, I washed his hair for him. His hair was so greasy that I had to wash it three times, before it looked like hair instead of lard. When I finished, I handed him a towel and told him to sit on the side of the tub. I went to work with the scissors and clippers cutting his hair.
Fifteen minutes later, Landon looked totally different. I had cut his hair short and added a little gel so that it would spike up on top. His hair being jet black, clean, and freshly cut, he looked absolutely adorable.
I cleaned the hair up off of him and handed him the clean clothes. They fit perfect. I was so proud of myself. I had just transformed a disgusting looking demon, into a handsome young man, demon.
He was admiring himself in the mirror with a strange look on his face, the look as if he had longed for this. I kept my head down while cleaning up, “Landon?” I said his name, like honey sticking to my lips.
Never taking his eyes off his reflection in the mirror, “Yeah?” he asked.
“I was just wondering do you have like special powers or anything?” I asked trying not to give anything away.
“Elizabeth, I appeared out of your bathroom floor the first time we met, so what do you think?”
“I thought you would say that, but I was meaning more along the lines of being able to do powers on yourself.” I said as I stopped to look at him.
He was looking back at me through his reflection in the mirror, now. Our eyes connected and I got lost for a minute in the depths of black with red specks. “What do you mean?” he asked seriously.
“Well can you make the stubs on your head disappear and make your teeth perfect, by just thinking about it?” I asked innocently.
“I am sure I can, but I have never worried about my appearance.” He said with a little sadness in his voice.
“Why don’t you try now?” I asked hoping he wouldn’t get mad.
“Ok,” he said with a grin, “Anything for you Elizabeth.”
I watched as he concentrated, staring at himself in the mirror. The specks of red disappeared completely and his eyes became blacker than any kind of black, I had ever seen. I watched as the stubs on both sides of his head slowly drew up into his head. I watched as he opened his mouth and his razor sharp teeth slowly became perfect white teeth. I watched as the dark circles disappeared under his eyes and a smooth dark tan appeared over his body and I assumed under the towel as well.
Slowly his eyes became the regular black that I love and the red specks re-appeared.
He looked at me and smiled, “Is this what you wanted?”
I looked at him dazed, “Yes, yes it is,” I said in a whisper.
“Now, can you do something for me, since I became your ‘project’,” he asked seriously.
Still in a daze, “What is it, Landon” at this point I loved saying his name and I loved looking at him. I was not embarrassed and I was more drawn to him now, than I had been when he came up out of his rabbit hole.
“Take me out,” he said with longing in his voice. “Take me out in the world, so I can feel like I am normal, as the way you just made me look, please?” I could hear the sadness and longing in his voice. I guessed that he is a demon, but that is not what he wanted to be. It was not by choice and he wanted to be normal.
“Yes, yes I will!” I said jumping up and throwing my arms around him. “I have never had a friend, Landon, and I have never been on a date!” I said all excited.
He wrapped his arms around me and held me close, “Thank you Elizabeth, I want more than anything to be your friend and
want nothing more than to go out on a date with you.
For some odd reason, I couldn’t see why Landon was a demon. I couldn’t understand how he could possibly be one and I was a little afraid to ask.
“What should you do with that?” I asked him looking at his dirty cape.
“Oh, that is easy,” he said and snapped his fingers and I watched as the cape disappeared in a swirl of smoke.
“Perfect, now will you disappear long enough for me to get ready?”
“That is not fair,” he said. “You gave me a bath and now I have to leave so you can take yours.”
“Yup, those are the rules,” I said smirking up at him. “Besides I think we are even now with seeing each other naked.” He was tall and I had no choice, but to look up at him.
“As you wish,” he said and disappeared before my eyes, just like his cape.
