“Well, we don’t want that to happen.” She jumped out of my bed, quickly heading toward the bathroom, and it felt too empty without her in it. I hoped that what happened between us was really going to seal the deal on our relationship moving forward. I could see Della leaving, though, and never coming back after she started doing that stupid over-analyzing thing. She was probably doing it right now in the bathroom, regretting what we did, and thinking things moved too quickly. It wouldn’t really surprise me if I peeked in there, and found that sexy ass of hers trying to wiggle out of the tiny window above the toilet.
“Hey.” I felt the bed bounce, and was relieved when I looked up to see her. She straddled my hips, still naked from this morning, and it took everything in me not to just slam myself right back into her body. She leaned down to brush her lips across mine, her hair sweeping against me before she pulled away. “I really do need to get going. Can you give me a ride back to my house?”
“Oh, I’ll give you a ride.” I pushed my hips up, and she rolled her eyes, jabbing a finger into my chest.
“I’m sure you would…and I probably wouldn’t mind.” She pushed back against me, and I groaned, gripping her hips tightly, but not firm enough, because she quickly jumped off of me.
“You are such a fucking tease.”
“Yup,” she agreed, and began to search around my room for her clothes. I watched as she slowly slid her underwear and bra back on, wrinkling her nose at the dress that was on my floor.
“You can take one of my shirts.” I pointed to my closet. “And I’ll even let you keep it.”
“How kind of you,” she responded sarcastically, before tugging it over her head and throwing her hair into a ponytail. “Are you gonna get dressed, or do you plan on driving me home naked?”
“Well,” I dragged out. “I’m sure we could have lots of fun on the way back if I didn’t put any clothes on. It would make things easier.” She quickly threw a shirt at me, covering my face, and I finally rolled out of bed, pulling it over my head and grabbing a pair of boxers out of my dresser.
“C’mon.” She gestured for me to follow, already on her way out of my room and heading down the hallway.
I grabbed my keys and my wallet, and jogged to catch up with her where she was waiting next to my car, tapping her foot impatiently. “What’s the rush?” I asked as I slid into the driver’s seat. “I figured you’d want to stay in my bed for the rest of the day since I reminded you of everything you’ve been missing.”
She rolled her eyes, and began shuffling through her purse until she took out her phone and started tapping on the screen. “I’m supposed to be meeting someone at two.”
“Oh, yeah?” I changed the radio station, not wanting to question her about who it was and seem like the jealous ass that I felt like at the moment. What did I call myself? Were we dating again? I felt like a fucking woman the way I was questioning the status of our relationship. Maybe I needed to check Facebook later to see if she had changed hers from being single. I sounded like a freaking douchebag, even in my own head.
“Mmhmm,” she murmured without glancing up from her screen. I played with the dials on the radio once again, not stopping long enough to even hear what was playing, and once I became bored with that, I started tapping my fingers on the steering wheel. I couldn’t take it anymore.
“With who?” There, I asked.
“Um, an old friend.”
I looked at her sideways, and saw that she was chewing on her bottom lip. Hard. That told me a lot. She might not be lying about it being an old friend, but there was something more there, something she wasn’t telling me.
“Nash?” I gripped the steering wheel tightly, my knuckles turning white. I knew they had a past, and were, at one time, really good friends. I knew we needed to learn how to trust one another again, and I needed to earn Della’s back.
“No,” she answered simply, staring out the window as we pulled into her driveway.
“Della, if we’re gonna make things work, you need to talk to me. No secrets, no lies. From either one of us.”
“I know.” She gave me a small smile before leaning across the front seat and placing a kiss on the corner of my mouth. “We definitely have some things to work on. I’ll call you tomorrow.”
I nodded my head, watching until she disappeared into the house. I couldn’t help but grin, even though I had an uneasy feeling in the pit of my stomach. Last night had been a turning point for Della and me, the one that I wanted for so long. I just hoped that we could actually make things work, and move forward, without any complications.
I JUMPED BACK, hand flying to my chest, after quietly shutting the door. It didn’t matter that I was trying to come into the house unannounced. Not when all three of my roommates were curled up on the couch with blankets and pillows, like they had been waiting there for me the whole time.
“Aren’t you a little early?” Zoey deadpanned, crossing her arms over her chest.
I had a feeling I was about to get the third degree from each one of them.
I shrugged one shoulder. “Thanks for ditching me last night,” I responded sarcastically, ignoring her question.
