Wrapping her legs around his hips, she met him thrust for thrust, taking her mate, giving herself to him.
“Come for me, mate,” he commanded as he snapped his hips, driving into her. His pelvis brushed against her clit with every thrust, and she was powerless to stop. Waves of ecstasy washed over her as she squeezed and released around him, gripping his cock as he kept plunging and retreating.
His smooth strokes faltered as he slammed home one last time and held himself deep inside her. His jerking cock sent her flying over the crest again as he filled her with his seed.
They lay there for a long time, neither of them speaking. Eventually, he turned onto his side, allowing her to breathe a little easier. Not that she would complain, she loved having his weight on her, but snuggling against him as he stroked her skin had her, and her dragon, practically purring with a contentment she hadn’t had in a long time—if ever.
Her eyelids grew heavy. How long had they been lying there, just holding one another? She pressed a kiss to his chest and closed her eyes. She was drifting away when a hard knock came at the door.
“Laundry service,” a harsh male voice came from the other side of the door, startling her into a seated position.
“Go into the bathroom, and lock yourself in. Don’t open the door until I tell you to.” Mateo hissed.
In an instant, he was up and standing between her and the only exit. She didn’t argue, didn’t question. She grabbed her dress and shoes and did the only thing she could. She hid.

Kara
Pausing, my hand inches away from the door, I listened as my mate’s voice rose in anger, his frustration biting into every word. He hadn’t slept in days, the constant worry eating away at him, his responsibility to the pack—to me—weighing heavy on his shoulders. Every night, he came to bed late, falling into my arms with a frantic abandonment that spoke volumes, our passion burning bright until the sun pierced the shadows, signaling the start of a new day.
Taking a deep breath, I pushed the door open. He needed me, and he most definitely needed the coffee and sandwich I was carrying.
“James?”
His dark head jerked up from where it was resting on the desk. The large oak monstrosity had been his father’s, and dominated the room through sheer size and ugliness. Snapping his cell phone shut, he leaned back in the worn, leather chair, his eyes brightening as a slow grin curled his lips. “My love, you didn’t have to,” he said, but his hand was already reaching for the food, another sliding around my waist to tug me down onto his lap.
Melting against him, I nestled my head on his chest, content to listen to the steady thud of his heart through the soft cotton. “You need to look after yourself,” I replied, already knowing what his reaction would be. I could read his emotions through the mating bond; it was one of the reasons I worried so much.
“I can’t slow down, Kara. You know I can’t. Whoever is behind all this is still out there—”
“And we’ll stop him, or her. Just remember, you’re not doing this alone. Your whole pack is behind you, helping you.”
My head rose and fell on his drawn out sigh. “I’m the Alpha. You know I can’t just—”
“I’m not asking you to stop. Or to give up. I want to get to the bottom of this as much as you do! What Eric did to me nearly destroyed me, and now, Lisa is missing—” My voice broke on a sob at the thought of what my friend might be going through, what could be happening to her.
