Cake Love: All Things Payne

"Yeah, I forgot. Silly me. Here I was thinking you were over that inane logic considering all we have been through."

"I have rules Morgana. I never kiss on the lips before sex or at least before orgasm. Well, except for that one time with you, but I was stressed and things just got carried away." His finger traces my frowning mouth and he leans in to kiss the corner.

"So kissing is a stress reliever huh? Good to know. I still think it's stupid."

He's spooning me now and slipping his hand under my arm to cup my boob. During sex it was all about my ass, now it's all about my tits; this man can't seem to make up his mind.

"It keeps me from getting close to a woman. A relationship with a woman can only complicate matters."

"Uh, too late on that Henrik. Our relationship is already one complicated mess."

He groans and rolls away from me.

Wow, I guess someone got his heart stomped on at some point. I need to work on him. Yeah, it's disappointing what he just told me. I fall into the 'woman' category he speaks of and therefore, he doesn't want to get close to me either. But (isn't there always a but) humans change and grow. Thirty-four seems too young for a man to be set in his ways. I'll just have to think of a few things to do that can help him relax and enjoy life again.

"So, what was her name?" I don't dance around subjects.

He stills and pulls his arm away so he is no longer touching any part of me.

"I don’t know what you’re talking about Morgana."

I roll over and watch him stare at the unmoving ceiling fan, his hands clasped beneath his head.

"Yes, you do Henrik. Obviously some terrible she-beast ripped your heart out years ago and you now refuse to get close to any woman for fear it might happen again. I don't have to be Sigmund Freud to figure that out."

He turns his head and his eyes squint. There it is, the mask coming back out. I have hit upon something and it's going to take all my powers to get it out of him. Usually my powers consist of offering chocolate or wine, but I think I need something stronger with Henrik. Perhaps a little T&A will work on him. I know it's a low blow, but never underestimate the power of seduction. Women have used it for thousands of years. I'm just using my God given talents. Don’t judge me!

"That isn't any of your business."

"Oh I beg to differ Mr. Payne. I see you five days a week, and now I have seen and felt the most intimate parts of your body. Not only that, but I let you do things to me that I never let any man do. So, finding out the name of a woman who broke your heart a long time ago isn't too much to ask."

His eyes are slits now and I can see the muscle twitch in his jaw. Henrik is getting up and starting to get dressed.

"I'm not answering your questions Ms. Drake. I need to leave to take care of some matters before the trip this evening. Feel free to eat the lunch out in the dining room."

He is tugging down his sweater as he walks to the door before turning to me.

"I expect you to be gone when I return. We will discuss the trip on the plane later. It's been fun." Henrik walks out and shuts the door behind him.

Mother fucker! I ask him one little touchy question and he bails on me. Can he ever not be a total asshole? Maybe that's why he's so fascinated by them.

I get dressed in the amazing clothes he bought me and eat his decadent food, and yeah I enjoyed it but you better believe I only had two pieces of the chocolate cake when I really wanted three. He thinks he can tempt me with cake, well he's right but I will eat it with a scowl on my face.

Chapter 7

Payne's Rule One: Know the Company and Its People

FOUR MONTHS AGO

She is tapping her foot and, my God, if it's not the most irritating thing on Earth. The woman is hot. Tall, long blonde hair currently pulled back into a tight bun with a lean figure, but sweet tits. And if I am going to be honest here, she has a perky ass too. Despite how I watch her ass bounce as she walks away from time to time, the woman can make Gandhi come back from the dead just to kill her.

"Yes Bechmann? What? You couldn't find anyone else to annoy so you sought me out?" I refuse to look up from my cell phone, I’m busy checking our latest feature of the Mimir app which is supposed to make it easier for people to purchase products, but I have yet to see the convenience.

"Your final interviewee is here, Payne. She's the last one we got since you scared everyone else off. I am warning you that if you don't choose an assistant soon you will be getting Grace the receptionist for the foreseeable future. You know how she has been begging for this job."

My head shoots up and I know Evaleen Bechmann, Witch of HR...oh I mean Bitch of HR, saw the flash of horror on my face. Not Grace. Anyone but Grace. She has a crush on me. Not a sweet, she is young and innocent crush. No, a stalker crush. The kind where I know one day I will walk into this office and find raven haired Barbie heads littering my desk with heart glitter scattered everywhere.
