Chris.
Will sighed. There was still so much to work out. After his conversation with Kate he hadn’t gone straight to Chris, hadn’t wanted to tip his hand. Instead he’d spent a significant amount of time going over all the project files. From the very initial research right through to the signing of the contracts. He’d checked everything and though, as Chris had said, there were missing files, nothing else jumped out at him as being suspicious. But then there was the feeling. It wasn’t going away and Will trusted his gut. Something was going on. Something was amiss and it was simply a question of catching Chris out. How, he didn’t know, but something would come to him.
“You look far away.”
Kate’s soft voice interrupted his musings. Will took her hand, giving her an apologetic smile as he did so. “Sorry, I was woolgathering.”
She laughed and squeezed his fingers. “You did say you were going to remember that one.”
“That I did.”
“So woolgathering about what?”
He shrugged. “Nothing important. Nothing for you to worry about.”
“You’re sure?”
“Of course.” He dropped a kiss on her open palm, then eyed the iPod Kate had brought over with her. It was in his docking station, an incongruous electric blue in the middle of his oasis of cooler colors. She’d said she wanted to share some of her music, and Will had readily agreed, but sitting and listening to music with her…having her that close. Picking up the scent of her skin, watching her hair ripple across her shoulders…he swallowed…that would be impossible tonight. He only had so much self-control and Will had reached his limit.
Two weeks. Two long, painful, aching weeks. He wasn’t sure how much more he could take. Or how much more space he could give her. Was she ready at last? He had no idea.
Tonight he was going to find out.
Will stood up, clicked the iPod on, and scrolled through until he found a song he was fond of. He pressed the play button and then turned, arm outstretched to Kate.
She giggled. “You are not serious.”
“You can come of your own accord or I can come get you,” he threatened and she shook her head quickly, even as she stood up and made her way over to him.
“Will, I can’t dance for shit.”
“Me neither. We make a perfect couple.”
The moment those words left his lips the atmosphere in the room changed. Just a moment ago it had been playfully teasing, and thrumming with unspent desire; now it thickened. The desire was everywhere. The teasing no more. Will reached forward, taking Kate into his arms. His body seemed to sigh in relief once she was there. Like it had been too long. Like it had been waiting for this, and this alone.
“I love this song.” She sighed.
“It is very pretty,” he said, not understanding why his heart rate multiplied when she spoke. Surely he hadn’t expected her to say…no, he shook his head and rested her head against his chest. That was ridiculous.
Too soon.
Too much.
And so they swayed to the music, its soft notes falling around them and Will was super aware of everything. The view from the window sparkled a million lights at him, the candles on the table flickered in the breeze, and Kate’s body moved in such a way that he had no doubt about her rhythm, despite her words to the contrary.
He buried his head in her hair, breathing in the smell of her, feeling his chest expand as he did so, and then when it seemed like his chest might expand too much he did the only thing he could. He nudged her until she lifted her head and then he kissed her.
It was one of many kisses that they’d shared. Some had been frantic, some slow and teasing, but this one was in a class all of its own. Her lips tasted of the wine they’d drunk. They were cool, they were hot, they were everything, and he groaned as he took them with his, moving them, coaxing them.
Kate gave a little mew, lifted herself to him, and there they stood as the last notes of the piano played out, their lips locked in a dance all their own. Will didn’t realize when he made the decision to scoop her up into his arms, but soon he was carrying her through to the bedroom, her legs tucked over his arms, her arms around his shoulders, her lips trailing down his jawline and onto his neck.
Will shuddered, blood racing everywhere as he deposited Kate on the bed. He wanted to take it slow. He wanted to enjoy the moment, but his control was slipping, and slipping fast.
“I want you so bad,” he said in an agonized whisper. “You have to tell me now if this isn’t what you want. If you’re not ready.”
Kate looked up at him, her hair slipping out of her braid, all tousled, her glasses steamed up, likely she couldn’t even see out of the damn things, but there was no mistaking her smile. No mistaking the fact that it was what she wanted, and when she reached up to start undoing his shirt buttons, Will was in no doubt, and he raced to help her. Relief and desire and a million other emotions fought for prominence.
It took maybe thirty seconds for his shirt to hit the floor, a couple of minutes more and Kate was tugging at his belt. But he had no intention of letting her have all the fun and carefully reached up to touch her glasses.
“Is this okay?” he asked. “Or do you want to take them off?”
“I can see just fine close-up. You can take them off.”
He did and was unsurprised to find that she was just as beautiful with her face free of any kind of adornment. Her eyes were so blue, so pretty, and she was looking at him in a way that did nothing to help his raging hard-on.
He kissed her again. Hard and fast. He ran his hands through her braid until it was worked loose and her hair was free, falling in waves around his hands. He held her hair tight, using the leverage to pull her closer, to kiss her harder, his tongue tracing around the inner aspect of her lips, touching hers, giving her just a taste of what was to come.
“I’m going to do what I promised now,” he whispered against her lips.
“Strip me naked,” she said softly. “Kiss every inch of my skin.”
“Exactly.”
The zipper of her dress ran along her spine all the way to the dip of her ass, and Will held Kate’s gaze as he pulled it down, the sound so loud in the room. And then gently, almost reverently, he pushed the dress down over her shoulders, watching in a state of extreme arousal as it pooled at her waist.
She wore a white bra, clasped shut at the front, decorated with tiny swirls of lace. Her breasts were just peeking out of it and her nipples were shadowy beneath the material. Will itched to taste them, but he took his time, control coming at last when he thought it had all but disappeared.
He undid the clasp, brushing his fingers over her skin as he did so, and smiled at the rapid rise and fall of her chest. The bra straps fell down her arms, the cups now by her side and he exhaled shakily as her breasts were laid bare to his view.
“You are so beautiful, Kate. Perfect, in fact.”
“Will, I—”
He silenced her by taking a nipple into his mouth and almost regretted it the moment he did. He was so hard, could feel the pressure building low in his groin, and honestly he did not know how he was going to last past the first minute.
That was what she had done to him, the state she’d put him in. All those days of play, the game between them, it had culminated in this, and as Will wrapped his arms around her waist, lifting her against him, he found himself praying to God that he wouldn’t disgrace himself. That he could make this special for her. That he could pleasure her in every possible way he knew. It didn’t even occur to him to wonder why that was so important. Why he wanted to make her ache to the point where only his name would fall from her lips. And maybe that was a good thing, because Will suspected the answer right now would be more than he could deal with.
