Slade (The Protectors #6)

“I’m fine, Sid.” Jill rolled her eyes as she tried to pull the sheet over her body, but Slade’s knees were on it.

When Lana walked up behind Sid, Slade lifted the barrel of the gun toward the ceiling. “Jesus.” Lana looked shocked staring at Slade’s black eyes and bloodied mouth. “Where in the hell did that blood come from?”

“I’m going to give you one second to get the fuck out of this room before I start shooting.” Slade’s tone was beyond pissed, his eyes narrowing in on Sid.

“Don’t threaten me while my mate is in the room.” Sid took an angry step toward Slade.

“Lana, please get him out of here,” Jill’s voice called out from behind Slade’s body. “I’m perfectly fine, embarrassed as hell, but fine.”

“Come on.” Lana pulled at Sid.

Sid pointed at Slade. “You better not have hurt her.”

“Fuck you!” Slade sneered.

“Me and you are going to have a talk.” Sid pointed back at himself and then back at Slade.

“You got that right, motherfucker,” Slade growled, his body still protecting Jill.

“Get out!!” Jill yelled as she eased herself off Slade’s softening cock, which wasn’t really soft at all and that in itself gave her pause, but then she remembered what was going on. “I’m a grown ass woman, Sid Sinclair, and don’t need you running into my room without knocking.”

“Well, excuse the fuck out of me! I hear banging and screaming coming from your room and thought maybe, just maybe you might need help.” Sid tried to peek around Slade to look at Jill. Slade clicked the trigger in warning, the gun lowering to Sid.

“For shit’s sake, Sid.” Lana pushed him out the door, and then turned to try to close the door, but it wouldn’t close. “Ah, I’ll stand out here to make sure no one comes in until you’re ready.” Lana’s eyes went to Slade’s ass.

“Lana!” Sid growled. “I’m close to killing the son of a bitch. Do not push me over the edge.”

“Oh, calm down.” Lana’s voice faded as they moved further down the hallway. “You know I only have eyes for your ass.”

Slade’s chest heaved with effort as he tried to control himself. Turning, he looked at Jill who had distanced herself from him and covered up with the sheet. His eyes searched her before seeing the blood seeping through the whiteness of the sheets. Grabbing it, he yanked it down to see two puncture wounds bleeding freely. “Dammit.” Slade reached for her, lifting her so he could lick the wounds closed.

Jill smiled up at him, wrapping her arms around his neck. When he reached around unclasping her arms, she shook her head. “Don’t do this.” Jill’s voice shook.

“Do what?” Slade tossed the sheet over her, and then got off the bed, grabbing his pants.

“Push me away.” Jill sat back on her knees letting the sheet fall away unashamed. “That was…”

“Something that shouldn’t have happened,” Slade finished for her as he jerked his pants on, careful not to rip his manhood off. Picking up his gun, he tucked it in the back of his waistband before grabbing his shirt and putting it on. “Did I hurt you?”

“When? Now or before?” Jill asked, shooting him a nasty glare.

“You know exactly what I’m talking about,” Slade hissed, tossing her bra and shirt at her.

“No, you didn’t hurt me.” Jill sat, holding her things.

“Put your clothes on before someone else comes barging in your room,” Slade growled, tossing her underwear and jeans at her.

“What do you care?” Jill angrily snapped on her bra and pulled her shirt on, her underwear was next. “You got what you wanted, right?”

“And what the fuck is that supposed to mean?” This time he did look at her. Slade knew without a doubt, he needed to go cool off and think before he did or said something he would regret.

“Good thing Sid did bust ass into my room, huh?” Jill kept going, wiggling into her pants. “Gave you an excuse to push me aside with your pissed-off attitude.”

“Dammit, Jill,” Slade warned, watching as she buttoned her pants.

“Go on.” Jill tossed him his boots. “Get out. Go like you want to. High five Sid on the way out, you asshole. You’re just like everyone else in my life.”

That did it. That pissed him off more than Sid breaking into her room. Grabbing her, he snapped her around, his face inches from hers. “I never promised you anything.”

“I didn’t say you did,” Jill shot back, trying to pull away from him. “But you’re ready to hightail it out of here, aren’t you? At least fake it and stay for two seconds.”

“I’m not like them, Jillian,” Slade growled, wanting to kiss her, but knew it would be a mistake. He had to think, get his shit straight and beat the fuck out of Sid. He gave her one last look. “I’m nothing like them.”

“Then prove it and stay.” Jill’s eyes begged him, but her body language said she didn’t give a shit whether he stayed or went.
