Chapter 13
They didn’t fuck they made love twice before sleep could take them. Jack was surprised that Rebel didn’t want to sleep after his breakdown, but he wasn’t complaining. Rebel told him that he needed the closeness and Jack was happy to give him that. He’d be happy to give Rebel anything his boy needed but he was worried that Rebel still had so much inside that he hadn’t let out yet. It was going to be a lot of hard work and he just hoped Rebel stayed through it all. A month just wasn’t long enough but it was the only promise he had for the moment.
When they woke it was late. The sun was already on the other side of the house and Jack felt like a kid who had skipped school. Giddy that he had the time away but knowing it could bite him in the ass.
“Sorry I was supposed to wake up and cook right?”
He hadn’t even realized Rebel was up and watching him. “No…actually you don’t get out of this bed until I tell you to. If I want some morning love I don’t want to have to look all over the house for you.” As he said this he accentuated the words with caresses over the skin above Rebel’s pubic hair. He then moved his hand down and ran his fingers through it watching Rebel respond beautifully. As Rebel’s kiss-swollen lips parted he smiled. “Today we work a bit, then play a bit, then just rest. How does that sound?”
Rebel’s smile was all the answer he needed and he gave him a sweet kiss that quickly intensified. Jack couldn’t believe how much Rebel turned him on. He felt young again, popping an erection every few minutes but he loved it and moved over Rebel quickly, the man spreading for him right away so Jack could settle between his thighs and their cocks rubbed together soon slick with precum and Jack grabbed Rebel’s hands and put them above his head.
“I think this morning I need to taste you.”
The moan Rebel made was long and low and lasted until Jack moved down his body, mouth watering for the long cock of his lover to slide into his mouth. Jack tongued the tip, dipping into Rebel’s slit making Rebel bounce on the bed.
“Hold still or I’ll tie you down.”
Jack hid his smile at the groan he received for that and sucked the glans lightly, teasingly as Rebel quaked with need beneath him. His tongue flicking over the staff Jack enjoyed the teasing even more as he felt Rebel ready to beg. He pulled a little on Rebel’s balls as he sucked the sides of his cock and finally Rebel broke, “Jack please!”
“Please what Rebel?”
Rebel growled and tried to sit up but Jack was faster and moved up, pressing Rebel down with the length of his body.
“Jack, come on…”
“Oh I plan on coming on. Coming on your face, on your chest, on your hot little ass, but right now I’m tasting you. I never said I was going to give you a blow job.”
“Fuck you are cruel.”
Laughing Jack nodded and kissed and licked his way back down Rebel’s body until he was flicking his tongue over each of Rebel’s balls. After five full minutes of teasing, of Rebel’s pleading moans, Jack finally took Rebel’s cock into his mouth in one deep slurp, closing his eyes as it hit the back of his throat and then swallowing as he felt it jerk up. He drank Rebel down hungrily then cleaned off his cock and crawled back up Rebel’s body.
“That’s what I expect you to do every morning, well except for the teasing. That would get you punished.”
Rebel’s eyes were still rolling, his breathing harsh. “Fuck yeah, okay, shit.”
Jack laughed and climbed out of bed. “Now you can go make us some food and don’t forget a pot of coffee. I missed the diner today. I’m surprised they didn’t send out a posse to see if I’ve been kidnapped.”
As Rebel got out of bed he bent down to kiss Jack quickly. “You have been kidnapped….oh wait that’s me!”
Jack slapped his ass and laughed with him.
After a breakfast of bacon and eggs Rebel cleaned up while Jack got dressed. He met Rebel in the hall and grabbed him into a tight hug. “Breakfast was great. I almost have the energy back that I used on you all night.”
“Good because I think I need a little more.”
Jack laughed into Rebel’s neck and said, “Me too but first let’s get out of here for a little while hmm?”
“Sure where to?”
Jack looked at him and took his lips in a kiss before he said, “Let’s go to your house and work on it. I love working with my hands.”
“And you are so good with them,” Rebel purred into his ear.
“First though, we need to get your ass tanned for the day. Let’s go into the bedroom.”
Rebel nearly tripped as he stepped away from him, his eyes dark with lust. “Okay.”
oooOooo
Dennis didn’t think he’d be called so soon on Jack’s day off but that afternoon Patsy called and he drug his lock box out of the closet and opened it to get his official sidearm, sending a prayer up as always that he wouldn’t have to use it. He was feeling better with the new meds but he didn’t know if he could keep his mind in the job. Worry had clouded him lately and he hoped whatever the call was it was not connected to the person he thought it was.
The location of the newest break in made his stomach turn. Mrs. Perry’s bead shop was on the edge of town, just down from the gas station about a quarter mile. It had been Henry who had seen the crack in the front window as he drove by to get gas and had called it in before he looked through to see the inside trashed. Patsy had tried to call the new owner, Marino, and then Jack to see if he knew where Marino was when she couldn’t find him but Jack wasn’t around either.
Big surprise.
Ever since Rebel Marino had got to town it had been turned inside out and so had his friend but he couldn’t blame Rebel for it. The man didn’t know any of it was happening because of him. All he probably knew at the moment was that Jack was falling in love with him. Dennis had seen it in his friends’ eyes right away.
He got into his car and made it down to the bead shop in less than an hour. He drove slow, really not wanting to be there, not wanting to see what he already knew he’d find. What he didn’t expect when he got there was to find his nephew passed out on the floor among the beads and unraveled yarn scattered on the floor, broken glass in his long hair and a bottle of vodka in his hand.
“Damn it Lon,” he whispered mostly to himself knowing Lonnie was too out of it to hear.
oooOooo
They worked well together. Jack was obviously not a painter; he was getting more on him than on the wall but Rebel kept his laughter to a minimum, glad to have the company. He loved working on the house but it had been pretty lonely doing it before Jack offered to help.
As he painted close to the door trim and Jack said, “How the fuck do you do that?”
Rebel looked back at him. “What?”
Jack walked over and looked closer. “You aren’t getting anything on the trim but you’re not using an edge or anything.”
“Oh that. It’s easy. Come on.” He put the brush into Jack’s hand and wrapped his hand around Jack’s, helping him to press the brush down hard on the wall. “Push until the bristles fan out then feather it down. It’s easy as long as you keep your hand pretty steady.”
Rebel took his hand away and watched as Jack tried it on his own. “Wow, and all these year I fumbled with those edgers and gadgets and none of them looked this good.”
“I have some tricks.”
Jack chuckled. “I know.”
Squatting to pour some paint into the tray Rebel asked, “So you know a lot about me. All I know about you is that you were married and you’re a sheriff.”
“Not much more to tell.”
Rebel rolled his eyes and said, “Yeah because you were born a twenty year old with a man and a job.”
Chuckling Jack nodded. “Pretty much.”
“Oh I get it. I don’t get to know.”
Jack turned around and put the brush on top of the can of paint then sat on the floor, crossed his legs and said, “I am the only child of the best two parents in the world. I guess I don’t want to feel like I’m rubbing them in your face.”
“Since my mom’s a nightmare.”
“Yeah, pretty much, but I have nothing about my past that I will hide from you.” Jack moved Rebel’s hair back from his face and smiled. Rebel loved when Jack made those little gestured. More than any of the words of love or the sex, those let Rebel know the man did in fact care about him.
“Well, tell me. I always wondered what it would be like to have a normal family.”
Jack took his hands and stared down at them while he spoke. “They found each other late in life. Mom was my age when she met Daddy and they married a year later and exactly a year to the day after that I was born.”
“What an asshole!”
Jack looked up smiling. “What?”
“Pushing in on their anniversary. Couldn’t wait a day or two?”
Jack pushed him playfully and Rebel caught himself then Jack continued. “They were great. Daddy was a cop in St. Martin. He got hurt though-“
“Shot?”
Chuckling Jack said, “No. He slipped on some ice and broke his leg in ten places. It took him a long to time to heal so they sort of forced him to retire. We moved up here when I was little. Mom thought it would be good for him. Fishing, hunting, back to nature stuff but he got bored. The sheriff and he became friends and he was asked to be a deputy.”
“Like father like son. That’s really cool.”
Jack nodded. It was. He and mom died a few years before Martin. Mom one year and Daddy the next.”
Jack’s eyes were a little watery and Rebel felt bad bringing up Jack’s pain so he thought quickly. “I’m thirsty so you must be too. Let me go get us some ice water then we’ll take a break. I’ll rub your neck.”
For that Jack leaned over and kissed him and Rebel smiled. He felt so good. So fucking good.
oooOooo
Jack looked at his cell phone after he cleaned his hands off from the paint and wallpaper pieces. He kept his phone off for the day but once he turned it on he saw several missed calls from work. He rolled his eyes and took the phone outside not wanting Rebel to know he was talking to work after he’d promised not to.
After it rang only once Patsy picked up and Jack said, “Yeah Pats what’s up?”
She huffed out, “Well nice of you to call Sheriff!”
Jack’s grip on the phone tightened. “Patsy just fucking tell me!”
She sounded perfectly offended as she said, “Well Sheriff there is no need to get crude, we had a call about Miz Perry’s bead shop. It was broke into.”
Jack’s stomach dropped to his feet. “What? When? Anyone see who did…?-“
“Sheriff if you let me have a word in edgeways I’d tell ya. I called Dennis like I was sposta and he went and is checking it out now. He called in and said it looked to be a bunch of kids again. Looks like we got ourselves some punk gang messing stuff up around here.”
“Yeah it does. Dennis has it handled then?”
“Yeah he seems ta.”
Jack closed his eyes and hung up the phone.
Rebel asked, “Who was that?”
Jack turned to see Rebel walking towards him smiling wickedly. “Just work.”
Rebel wrapped his arms around Jack. “Work on your day off. Well maybe it’s you who needs the spanking.”
Jack smiled weakly and said, “Yeah maybe.” He grew serious then. “We need to talk baby.”
Rebel grimaced and it hurt Jack straight through. “Okay…what?”
Jack walked with Rebel over to the chairs on the side of the house. After they sat Jack began. “The call the other night? The one where I said some kids messed up that house?”
“Yeah the one that you got when we were about to…”
“Yeah that’s the one. Well I lied.”
Rebel sat up straight and held his palms up and asked, “Why lie about that?”
Jack leaned his elbows on his knees and sighed. “Because someone set it up to look like you did it.”
Rebel stood and looked down at him. Jack met his eyes and saw the pain and fury there. He stood and grabbed Rebel’s shoulders. “Baby listen, I knew it wasn’t you okay? That’s why I didn’t tell you. I wanted to handle it without having to tell you.”
The rage that was building inside of Rebel was glaring and Jack knew he had to get a handle on it but first he had to tell Rebel the rest. He took a tighter grip on Rebel’s shoulders and said, “Listen that’s not all. Candace’s store…someone vandalized it as well.”
Rebel wrenched away from Jack then and he ran into the house. Jack ran after him and once inside he heard things being thrown around in the dining room so he went there and saw as Rebel was picking up the second chair to throw. He got it away from him, put it down and grabbed him around the chest pinning his arms as he did. Rebel struggled but Jack held tight.
“Stop!”
“Fuck you! Let me go!” Rebel screamed in his face and as much as Jack didn’t want to he threw Rebel to the carpet and straddled him, pinning his arms over his head.
“Rebel, baby stop!”
Rebel burst into tears and sobbed out, “Why? What did I do this time? Why does everyone hate me so much?”
“I don’t know, baby, but please, just let me find out! Just don’t hurt yourself…don’t hurt us!”
Rebel’s head shook from side to side. “No! There shouldn’t be any us! Don’t you see it’s not going to work! I should have never come here!”
“Rebel I love you please don’t go.”
oooOooo
Dennis dragged Lonnie into the house as his joints all screamed out at him. His pills were wearing off and he needed to take more but first he had to get his nephew inside before anyone saw him. He was so angry he could barely keep from punching Lonnie in the face but he couldn’t. There was something going on and he was damn well going to find out after he woke him up and then he would knock him back out for putting him in this situation.
“Lonnie! Lon! Wake your stupid drunk punk ass up! Lonnie!!”
Lonnie stirred and rolled on his side on the guest bed he’d used whenever he slept at his uncle’s house. His eyelids opened on his squinted eyes and he saw his uncle then startled and he croaked out, “Uncle Den!”
Dennis sat back in the chair he’d pulled to the bed and nodded. “Yeah Uncle Den. What the fuck is going on Lonnie? Why did you break in to Mrs. Perry’s store?”
Rolling to his back he put both of his hands over his face. “Fuck.”
Dennis reached over, took Lonnie’s hands from his face then slapped him hard. “What the fuck is going on with you?”
Lonnie rolled up to sit, his hand covering his cheek where his uncle had hit him. There were tears rolling down his cheeks and over his fingers that Dennis knew weren’t from the slap.
“What has got you so fucking crazy all of a sudden?”
Lonnie looked at him and opened his mouth like he was trying to push the words out but couldn’t. Finally he said, “Jack.”
Dennis sat back, surprised. “Jack? What about Jack?”
“I love him.”
