chapter NINETEEN
It doesn’t take long for Kallos to end up in the garden. She looks around and doesn’t see anyone, but that doesn’t mean no one is around. She walks over to the pond and sits by the edge. The one thing she loves about this place is how quiet it is. This place is better than any dream she has ever had. But, she didn’t come here for the quiet; she is here for Aphrodite. She stands up and looks around one more time but doesn’t see anyone.
“Aphrodite, I need you!” Kallos yells for her goddess. The air changes and it gets cooler. Aphrodite instantly appears in front of her, wearing a gold shimmering dress that goes down pasts her feet. It has only one shoulder strap on her left shoulder. Her right arm has a gold sleeve wrapped around her whole arm. Her hair is done up in curls, and gold spirals cascading down her impeccable curls. Kallos still can’t believe that she is supposed to be her, in a way.
“Hello, my dear Kallos.” Aphrodite's voice reminds Kallos of a mother’s, caring and concerned at the same time.
“Hi, Aphrodite,” Kallos smiles at her.
“You had another attack today?” Kallos nods. “Tell me what happened.” Kallos tells her everything, how she was outside her body watching and how Sean was the only one to see her.
“So, Sean is the only one that could see you?”
“Yes, I was standing next to Ian, and he looked right past me.”
“That is strange; maybe one of Sean’s powers is that he is a ghost whisperer.” Now that is a little creepy. “And it seems that you did gain another power before your change. You can spirit travel.”
“What is spirit travel?” Kallos creases her eyebrows together.
“Come and sit, Kallos.” Aphrodite walks over to the grass by the roses and sits down. Kallos follows and sits next to her. She turns and faces Kallos, “Spirit traveling is where you can travel anywhere outside your body. You may be able to travel farther with time.”
“What else will happen to me? Why am I the only one that is getting powers before my change?”
“You are different, Kallos. You are going to be the only reincarnated me to survive the change.” Kallos looks down because she still may not make it. “You are the strongest one I have ever seen, so do not doubt yourself. I have faith in you; so does Apollo and Ares.”
“Do you know who my real parents were?” That has been bugging Kallos since she found out about her new life. Aphrodite looks over at the water.
“Yes, but are you sure you want to know?” Kallos isn't too sure if she does, but she likes having the option.
“Not now, but maybe some time.” Aphrodite looks at her and smiles.
“When you want to know, then I will tell you. And about what will happen next, I’m not sure. You may have your complete change or gain another new power. I just know that your change is coming soon, but I am not sure when it’s going to happen. I know that the boys aren’t taking your pain anymore.”
“Sean still is,” Kallos corrects her. Aphrodite's eyebrows go up in disbelief.
“He can take your pain and not Ian?” Kallos nods and Aphrodite smiles. “Well that is strange, but that doesn’t mean Ian isn’t your soul mate. It could just mean that Sean has stronger powers in healing than Ian. Have you thought about which one you are going to choose?”
“No, and I’m not going to think about it until I know them better. They may be my soul mates and I do love them, but I want to get to know them a little better. I want to make the right choice and not regret it for the rest of my life. I already know that I am going to hurt someone including myself. When I pick one over the other, it will break my heart, and whoever goes will always have a piece of me. The other one will know this too. I just can’t believe how complicated my life has gotten with them in my life, but I wouldn’t change a thing. I do love them both; they both have something to offer me.” Aphrodite's arms wrap around Kallos, and she hugs her tightly.
“I know, Kallos; I made this same decision many years ago. You are right. It will hurt you too, but at least you will have one of them. No matter whom you choose, just remember to follow your heart. Things might happen when you are mad at one and the other looks like an angel don’t choose then. Maybe at your graduation, you can choose then. It’s nice to give yourself and them a time limit.” Aphrodite was right; Kallos doesn’t want to carry it out forever. She wants to be with one and only one. Waiting until graduation gives her plenty of time to get to know them.
“Okay, when I graduate high school is when I will pick. That is plenty of time to get to know them.” Aphrodite smiles at her, but it isn’t a happy smile.
“And that is an endless amount of time to fall even more in love with them both, which will lead to even more breaking of yours and his heart.” Kallos looks down because Aphrodite is right. But she doesn’t want to choose until she knows who she wants for sure. “But Kallos, you do need to get going.” Kallos looks back up at her and she is smiling.
“Yeah, I should get back. I have a date with Sean.” They stand up together and Aphrodite kisses Kallos' cheek.
“I will see you soon, Kallos.” Then Aphrodite vanishes as quickly as she appeared. Kallos really does hope that she gets that power.
Kallos walks over to the flowers; she isn't ready to leave yet. She could never smell anything in a dream before, but here everything smells wonderful. The flowers are like super flowers; the roses are perfect and bigger than any she has ever seen before. The sunflowers are almost twice the size of her head. The best thing about this garden is that there are no bugs. She hates bugs and will admit that they terrify her. She walks back to the pond, and for the first time, she sees fish, huge gold fish and some others she doesn’t recognize. So, this place does have life besides the flowers. She looks up at the sky, and its flawless ocean blue color with no clouds. The sky reminds her of Ian’s eyes. She knows she needs to get back so she prepares herself to do so.
